Sustainability

ISÔKO is now entering its second year in 2009, as we re-mount The Monument for the 15th anniversary of the genocide, and begin to work on Tideline through the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

The Monument has been invited to the Arts Azimut Festival in October 2009, and we are locating partners to accept invitations to tour to the National Theatre of Uganda and to the French Cultural Centre in Bujambura, Burundi.

We will continue to work with the artists trained through The Monument as we branch out into international touring, collective creations, new plays, and create training initiatives by partnering with local theatre companies Ishyo and Mashirika, as well as groups such as the theatre department of the California Institute of the Arts under Dean of Arts Eric Ehn.

A focus will be placed on new play development: working to provide workshops to those who are on fire to tell their country's stories, but at present have limited means to do so, the playwrights.
